Connecting to Mother Earth with Feng Shui Design

Happy Earth Day 2022!

I have always loved nature and was always the kid lingering longest in the woods before having to get back into my parents artificial smelling car! I was always very sensitive to off-gassing and still am. A new hire car on holiday would give me a faint headache for example and I always felt tangible relief when driving away from any city and out into nature and wilderness.

These days I have learned ways to not be so affected, without losing my sensitive nature. It took a few trial runs varying from numbing out completely (!) to being overly protective to now striking a lovely happy medium! I really enjoy a few days or weeks in a big city now and then as I love the contrast to my largely Hobbiton-esque existence! lol! Having previously lived in London for 8 years, I really appreciate the diversity of people, cultures and food and catching up on the latest fads and trends etc. but I couldn't live there permanently with no other bolthole. Maybe one day a large custom Feng Shui designed detached house in Richmond or Wimbledon will be on the cards as that would have enough earth element to sustain me and also be surrounded by amazing walks, wildlife and greenery.

Anyhow, fortunately, there are still many ways to boost your Earth connection with Feng Shui design and also with some helpful technologies.

In classical Feng Shui, a key principle is to harmonise the divine Trinity of Heaven, Human and Earth.

We want to create Heaven on Earth by being guided and aligned to our highest soul purpose. Getting quiet enough to hear our soul speak to us is the first step and being grounded helps us to do just that. According to ancient Chinese philosophy and Taoism human beings are at their best when they feel a sense of connection with the spiritual world and with the natural world. We are not supposed to be isolated from other people or from nature, or glued to our screens - this breeds sociopathy, fearfulness and psychopathy. The natural world isn't all sweetness and light, obviously, as it does have perils but on the whole, being out in nature does relax and rejuvenate our bodies and it is proven to boost our mood and eco psychologists tell us that it even expands our minds. :)  I definitely have experience of all of the above.

Earth element in Feng Shui

  • Certain orientations of building have more earth energy than others.
  • Farmhouses and old houses with thick earthen walls or adobe houses have amazingly stable earth energy, usually, unless there is a disturbance underground.
  • Exposed brick walls are earth element
  • Concrete floors are earth element, even if a little sterile. Their earth action is diluted though if painted black or white.
  • Jute or Seagrass is a classic earth element to use (it is not wood element!)
  • Stone work surfaces
  • Stone candle holders
  • Crystals
  • Colours of grey, sand, brown, beige, yellow and terracotta have an earth element effect.
  • Low squat shapes like sofas, ottomans and trunks
  • Photos or paintings of classic mountains or fields of ploughed earth

Feng Shui Design

Homes with the SW or NE missing can be a little ungrounding at times, which can suit some people who don't need any more earth element in their Chinese Horoscope chart, but generally people live best when occupying a property with all the directions present.

Homes with the centre missing are not advisable unless a particular configuration like a wonderful Feng Shui atrium

Planning a home with Feng Shui in mind means working from the outside in to understand the influence of the natural energy outside and how it circulates towards the home. We also consider the magnetic energies of the earth on which the house sits.

Connection with our environment and surroundings increases our awareness of being grounded in to a physical body. If we get too up in our head we can lose all sense of the present moment and lose the connection with our heartspace. Designing a space with Feng Shui energies and natural materials helps to create a much more organic atmosphere which is so much more supportive for us than sterile artificial interiors.

Meditation on Earth Chakras

Connecting to earth via visualisation is very powerful.  Boosting the chakras below your feet is really good for holding your energy and not being so influenced by other people around you. Tribal wisdom isn't always wise! It can get hijacked by propaganda and turn quite crazy. If you feel bewildered by certain outlooks these days, just ground down below your feet and breathe into your belly and visualise breathing into the ground. The Earth never lies and she will eject falsehood and incongruence.

KenkoGround Grounding Sheets

Nikken have designed a lovely portable mat that sits at the end of your bed and as your bare feet are in contact with it, it grounds the small amount of body electricity. I love taking mine with me on trips away, so that I can stay grounded even in a hotel.

You can read more about them and purchase via my Nikken website here:

Go to Products, then Rest and Relaxation and you will find the KenkoGround - or just search on the homepage search bar.

Wi-fi, 5G and EMF Neutralisation

The Memon devices are absolutely beautiful in their energy and I love having mine plugged in and can notice a difference when I visit spaces that are not Memonised! You can read more and buy online here:

A Raditech/Geomack is also a good way to harmonise the Earth energy and wifi/5G.

I sell these in my online shop here:
